Marijuana is a commonly known psychoactive drug that is also used for medicinal purposes. It had been announced as an illegal drug in the United States of America and most of the countries.
However, in recent years “Marijuana” was legalized in two states, Washington and Colorado. Why was this legalized?
Marijuana also has medicinal value. It is known to reduce nausea and vomiting and is also used as a pain-reliever. Though these effects are observed in short doses to humans, long-term effects are known to cause negative effects. Marijuana is addictive and potentially can lead the person exposed to it to long-term use which can be unhealthy.
There is an administrative angle to legalizing Marijuana as it reduces the money flow to global criminal gangs from the US Economy. It also significantly reduces the cost of policing as they no longer need to run behind pot-smokers. Over 45% of US population think and support for legalizing Marijuana in the country.

- Stalks of Marijuana contain fibers which can be used for industrial purposes.
- Marijuana can be good for mental health.
- It is also said to be anti carcinogenic, i.e., it inhibits the development of cancer.
- Smoke from Marijuana contains more cancer causing components than tobacco.
- Marijuana use is linked to change of the sperm cell structure, thus causing sterility in men.
- Since its active ingredient is Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), it affects receptors on nerve cells andhence brain development.
- It can cause serious respiratory problems, anxiety and reddening of eyes.
